Jake enjoying his acupressure treatment |
I wanted to share a journey I have been on for the past seven months. It has changed my life and has truly touched my soul. Realizing after pet sitting for 5 years I was experiencing emotional pain, the kind of pain that comes from losing a pet to old age, sickness or cancer. A few of my clients have lost a pet, some have lost multiple pets and this made me very sad. When their pet died it was if a member of my family died too.
Numerous pets that I have cared for many years have started to transition into their senior years and some have into their geriatric phase. I wanted to be able to help and support these pets as they did. For that reason I turned to The Healing Arts Institute and enrolled in the Animal Acupressure Training Program with Tom Wilson, Ph.D.
What I learned changed my life. There is a power in the healing touch. As an ancient eastern healing art, acupressure has been used with animals for at least four thousand years. Acupressure is a noninvasive, gentle treatment that can greatly impact both humans and animals. Our pets are highly attuned to acupressure.
Casework has shown acupressure can improve our pet(s)’s comfort, emotional stability and overall health: relieve muscle spasms, build the pet’s immune system, release endorphins needed to reducing pain, release natural cortisone to reduce swelling, improve mental clarity required for focus in training and performance, and resolve injuries more readily by eliminating toxins and increasing blood supply to the body.
Acupressure can reduce a pet’s anxiety, help build self-confidence, decrease aggressiveness, help the pet be less fearful and more emotionally stable, and enhance mental focus.
Acupressure is a caring language of touch that our pets understand and fully welcome. Modern medicine has begun to recognize the value of eastern healing modalities.
My dogs, Jake and Stella look forward to their treatments as they know it makes them feel good. Stella is a blind/deaf arthritic 16 year old Chihuahua. Jake is a two year old active Chihuahua mix. He actually will place his body part under my hands where he wants to be touched. Both are very familiar and enjoy acupressure.
